Dark skinned individuals are normally not candidates for the deep penetrating phenol chemical peel. This is because their skin is darker due to the fact it produces more melanin than light skinned individuals. Application of phenol peels can lighten skin shades so that a person of African descent with black skin could conceivably end up with white skin on the face.
